The Green Bay Packers are headed into an off-season full of question marks. The biggest one being, when Aaron Rodgers will be traded to the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers declared he intends to play for the New York Jets in 2023. However, with seemingly no progress toward that trade actually happening, multiple other teams have reportedly entered the mix for the four-time MVP quarterback. That being said, it would be fairly surprising if the Green Bay Packers chose to trade him anywhere else. It would appear that another NFC team may be losing a significant player this off-season as well.
Pro-Bowl LB Devin White Requests Trade From Tampa Bay Buccaneers
According to multiple reports:
Bucs’ Pro Bowl LB Devin White has in fact requested a trade, as Jenna Lainereported. Bucs do not want to trade him, but he wants to be traded as he is coming up on his fifth-year option.
Devin White was the 5th overall pick of the 2019 draft. White has started all 62 games he’s played in for the Buccaneers. That includes all 34 over the last two regular seasons. He was on the field for 95 percent of the defensive snaps in 2021 and 96 percent of them in 2022. White was also a second-team All-Pro in 2020, helping the Bucs win Super Bowl LV.
The linebacker is slated to earn $11.71 million on his fifth-year option in 2023. As mentioned above, Adam Schefter noted that the Buccaneers would not like to trade White. But White would like to be moved to help facilitate a new contract. White has recorded 20.5 sacks, 55 quarterback hits, 35 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and 15 passes defensed in his four-year career.
Could The Green Bay Packers Pursue LB Devin White?
The Packers have a solid duo at the Linebacker position in De’Vondre Campbell and Quay Walker. It would be unlikely that they would spend valuable assets on another quality Linebacker when they have needs elsewhere. That being said, if the Buccaneers are unable to find a suitor for the pro-bowler and his price-tag drops, it would certainly be a name worth exploring. The addition of Devin White would make an incredible trio for the Green Bay Packers at the center of their defense.
