The Green Bay Packers have made some fairly drastic changes this offseason. Aaron Rodgers, of course, was traded to the New York Jets. The wide receiver room is going to be filled with rookies and second-year players instead of a mixture of young receivers and veterans. Two rookies will be the top tight ends as Robert Tonyan departed for Chicago and Marcedes Lewis will not be re-signed. Gone, too, is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, Mason Crosby.
In a recent interview, head coach Matt LaFleur explained the decision to move on from the veteran kicker in favor of sixth round draft pick Anders Carlson.
Green Bay Packers Special Teams Coach Rich Bisaccia Is “Very High” on Anders Carlson

On Saturday, LaFleur addressed the media and talked about Carlson:
“He’s [Bisaccia’s] very high on him [Anderson]. Obviously, having a history there with with his brother and he’s known him for a while, now. So, [it] definitely made a big impact to be picked by us. He’s a talented, talented guy and we’re excited – he’s got a big leg. Certainly, he’s far from a finished product, by far. He didn’t kick with a brace on this week at all, which I think is going to help him and we’re just excited about the talent there.”
It will be interesting to see how the kicking competition works out this summer. Crosby himself was a sixth round pick way back in 2007, so it is almost fitting that he be replaced by another one. Fans may recall that Crosby had some down years throughout his tenure in Green Bay, and hopefully Carlson can avoid those. As his leg gets stronger, he will only get more accurate and more distance on his kicks.
