The Green Bay Packers have a ton of talent at the wide receiver position. The unfortunate news with training camp over is that not every single wide receiver is going to make the 53-man roster.
There is no doubt that there will be several wide receivers that do make the roster and there could be as many as seven who make it. Six wide receivers made the team out of camp last season.
Green Bay Packers Release Wide Receiver Samori Toure From the Team
It was no surprise that the Packers released wide receiver Samori Toure from the team. There simply was no room for him to make the 53-man roster. Toure was competing with Grant DuBose, Malik Heath, and Bo Melton for a roster spot and all three of them performed better than Samori Toure did.
Toure caught five passes for 53 yards receiving and was targeted eight times in the preseason. He did not catch a single touchdown pass and also averaged 10.6 yards per reception in the preseason.
Last season with the Green Bay Packers, he caught eight passes for 78 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. Toure was targeted 18 times and averaged 9.8 yards per catch. He was a seventh-round selection (258th overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nebraska.
Potential Practice Squad
It would also not be a surprise to see Toure stick around on the Green Bay Packers practice squad for now. It would also not be a surprise to see another team claim him. Some wide receiver-needy teams need depth and Toure could provide it for them.
With Toure not making the 53-man roster, it appears as if the Green Bay Packers are going to keep six or seven wide receivers on the roster. Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Malik Heath, Bo Melton, and Grant DuBose should be the wide receivers who make the 53-man roster. It is one of the deepest groups in the entire NFL.
