The Green Bay Packers 2022 season did not go as planned. Both the offense and defense received preseason top-10 rankings, but failed to come close to those predictions. The disappointing season led to one of the most dramatic offseasons Green Bay has seen in quite some time, with Aaron Rodgers being traded to the New York Jets.

While fans and analysts followed the situation closely, and more and more is being revealed about what happened behind the scenes, former Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb knew it was the end. In a recent press conference, Cobb revealed the moment he knew he and Rodgers would not play together in Packers uniforms again.

Of course, Cobb followed Rodgers to New York and will play for the Jets this season. In a recent media session with Jets writers, Cobb answered a question about when he knew that Rodgers and himself would not play together for the Packers again:

“Uh, it meant a lot. I knew that [walking off the field against the Lions] was going to be the last time that both of us together would walk off that field. I really didn’t know how it was going to go, but I kind of knew that the time was coming. I didn’t know what to expect but before the game, Aaron came to me and said, ‘I’m going to need you today.’

“Obviously if we had won that game, we would have been in the Playoffs and then had a home game, so I knew that was going to be our last time in Lambeau.”

He was then asked how he explains his relationship with Rodgers and why they click so well.

“Why we click? I’ve known him for over a decade now. We’ve kind of grown together. We’ve grown to understand each other in a different way. He’s the godfather to one of my kids. He stood up in my wedding. I definitely have a good sense of the kind of person that he is.”

Many believed that the home loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 18 was the end of the road for Rodgers and the Packers after he politely refused to swap jerseys with a young Lions defender. Even before Rodgers publicly stated that he was committed to play for the Jets in 2023, it was a foregone conclusion for many that he would not be back.
