The Green Bay Packers are 1-1 through the first two games of the 2024 NFL season. One of the players who has been struggling is linebacker Quay Walker. He is in his third NFL season and some fans think he should head to the bench.
Despite recording 17 tackles in the first two games of the season. From Pro Football Focus:
“He missed two tackles while allowing four completions on five targets for 53 yards. Walker made one pressure that led to an interception, but his coverage is becoming a problem.”
NFL Mock Draft Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia To Replace Quay Walker In 2025
Freddie Boston of lombardiavenue.com created a 2025 NFL Mock Draft on Tuesday morning. In the second-round (53rd overall selection) of the 2025 NFL Mock Draft, he has the Packers selecting linebacker Jalon Walker from Georgia.
Lombardi said about Jalon Walker:
“Jalon Walker offers a ton of versatility, as he can line up in the middle of the field or rush the passer off the edge. He does both for the Bulldogs and already has 1.5 sacks in three games this season. According to PFF, he made eight pressures last week. Hafley could move him around and ask him to cover, blitz, and play as an edge rusher.”
The Green Bay Packers do not have a ton of depth at the linebacker position. Quay Walker was very good in his first two seasons in the NFL with Green Bay. Surprisingly, he is struggling to start the 2024 season. ESPN’s Mel Kiper said about Jalon Walker:
“Walker gets into the backfield as if he were shot out of a cannon, and his bend and explosion off the edge help him beat blockers and get to the quarterback or ball carrier. His sideline-to-sideline speed gets your attention when you watch the tape.”
Quay Walker Under Contract For a Couple Of More Years
After the 2024 season, Walker is under contract with the Green Bay Packers for the 2025 season and has a club option for the 2026 season, according to Spotrac. If Green Bay were to pick it up, he would be a free agent after the 2026 season.
It will be interesting to see if Walker continues to struggle. This is a new defensive scheme he is learning and it will take some time. Quay Walker is one of the most talented defensive players on the Packers’ roster. Drafting Jalon Walker in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft would be good for depth purposes and maybe not as a permanent replacement for Quay Walker.
