Green Bay Packers: 3 former quarterbacks assigned to UFL rosters ahead of 2026 NFL season

The Green Bay Packers are set at the quarterback position when it comes to who will be their starter for years to come. Jordan Love, in his three years as the starter, has put up numbers comparable to his Hall of Fame predecessors, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Additionally, Green Bay has made the NFL Playoffs in each of his three seasons as their starting quarterback.

However, exactly who will be his backup in 2026 remains to be seen. Malik Willis has filled that role for the past two seasons and has played exceptionally well in the opportunities he has been given. It is widely expected that he will leave the Packers in free agency and get a chance to start from a different NFL team.

With that in mind, the quarterback position is certainly one that Green Bay will address in the offseason as they look for a suitable backup for Love. It will be a process of some trial and error, presumably, and three others who vied for that role in the past are now playing in the UFL.

Former Green Bay Packers QB’s Clayton Tune, Michael Pratt, and Taylor Elgersma have been assigned to UFL rosters

Prior to acquiring Willis via trade with the Tennessee Titans right before the 2024 NFL season began, Green Bay had Michael Pratt and Sean Clifford compete for the role during training camp. However, neither performed well in preseason games and so the team made the decision to part ways with both.

Pratt was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while Clifford was re-signed to the practice squad. However, he did not remain with Green Bay past the 2024 NFL season.

This past year, Green Bay started their search for someone who could eventually replace Willis as QB2, giving opportunities to Taylor Elgersma and Clayton Tune.

And while Tune played in Week 18 with both Love and Willis sidelined, he was eventually released in favor of Desmond Ridder.

Now, all three of Tune, Elgersma, and Pratt have found themselves assigned to UFL rosters:

    Michael Pratt

Being on a UFL roster does not mean these quarterbacks cannot be signed by NFL teams to compete for a roster spot. However, given the way that their tenures ended in Green Bay, one can assume they will not garner a second look from the Packers.

Desmond Ridder, however, is currently on the 53-man roster. That being said, Green Bay will likely bring in some new young quarterbacks to compete for the role as well.
