All things considered, the Green Bay Packers had a terrific 2023 campaign. They surpassed expectations by not only posting a winning record of 9-8 in Year 1 of the Post-Aaron Rodgers Era but also making the playoffs. They even scored a W in the postseason at the expense of the Dallas Cowboys before running into a wall in the divisional round where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers. The Packers probably would have made it past the divisional round, though, if only Anders Carlson had not missed a crucial field goal attempt in that contest.
Green Bay Packers need to shore up the kicker position

But that’s all behind now for the Green Bay Packers. It’s all about looking ahead now for the team, which will look to build on that solid 2023 season as they prepare for the next one. And if they are to continue having success, ESPN’s Matt Miller and Jordan Reid think that the Packers should seriously prioritize shoring up the kicker position.
Via ESPN:
Fix the kicking situation. Whether that’s sticking with Anders Carlson, who had a rocky rookie year, bringing in some competition or signing a proven veteran, they can’t have what happened this season happen again. And it wasn’t just Carlson’s missed 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the playoff loss to the 49ers. It was an on-going problem. His 13 missed kicks this season (field goals and extra points, including playoffs), were the most in the NFL and three more than any other kicker. Perhaps this is why some teams simply refuse to draft a kicker like the Packers did with Carlson in the sixth round. Had they not invested a pick in Carlson, perhaps they would’ve brought in another kicker at some point while letting Carlson work out his issues.
There will be a number of intriguing options in the free-agent market that the Packers can consider adding to the squad. Names such as Nick Folk, Ka’imi Fairbairn, Cameron Dicker, and Greg Zuerlein are among those on the list of looming free agent kickers in 2024.
The Packers can also just leave it to hope that Carlson will get better and be less vulnerable to pressure in 2024 now that he’s got experience in the playoffs. Then again, it shouldn’t hurt Green Bay to at least check out other kicker options.
