The Green Bay Packers have been at the center of block buster trades for two off-seasons in a row. Last season saw the Packers ship star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. Of course, this off-season was the franchise-altering Aaron Rodgers trade that sent the star quarterback to the New York Jets.
Earlier this off-season there were rumblings of the Packers being involved in yet another major trade. The Packers were one of the few teams that reached out to the Indianapolis Colts for star running back Jonathan Taylor. Now that possibility just skyrocketed.
Indianapolis Colts Reportedly Lower Trade Package Asking Price For Star Running Back Jonathan Taylor
In a recent ESPN report, ESPN’s Dan Graziano stated that Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who is nearing his eligibility to return following the PUP list, “still does not play for the Colts” following Week 4:
“From what I understand, he still doesn’t want to play for the Colts, and they still don’t want to give him a long-term contract,” writes Graziano regarding Taylor’s unhappiness with his current contract situation and the Colts.
According to an earlier national report, Taylor’s ankle is fully healthy and he could’ve played weeks ago if he were eligible off of PUP. Baring any setbacks, Taylor looks to be a “go” come week five of the season. Many believe that Week Five appearance will be with a different team.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN commented that he expects Taylor to stay put, given that the acquiring team would have to give up a ‘Day 2’ pick (along with possibly a lucrative multi-year contract). It was reported that last time trade talks broke off, the Colts were asking too much from the Packers (Christian Watson) and the Dolphins (Jaylen Waddle). However, with a day two draft pick being the new requirement, teams should be a little more interested.
Could The Green Bay Packers Actually Acquire Taylor?
According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports:
I’m told both the Dolphins and Packers were both willing to give running back Jonathan Taylor a contract that placed him among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL entering this season, per source.
