The Green Bay Packers are heading into week one with a number of question marks at the wide receiver position. The Packers’ top two wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson are both questionable for their first contest of the year against the Chicago Bears.
Before the Packers’ report of their top two wide receivers being questionable, the Packers were named as a landing spot for one former first-round wide receiver. That could be even more true.
The Green Bay Packers Named As Landing Spot For Wide Receiver Jalen Reagor
According to Sayre Bedinger of Lombardi Ave:
Yes, Jalen Reagor is currently on the New England Patriots’ practice squad, but unless the Patriots are protecting him on a weekly basis, he could be fair game. Now, you get into the complicated matter of trying to sign practice squad guys, and them using that as leverage to get more money from the team they are currently on, but I like the idea of adding Reagor to the Packers for some of the same reasons I like the idea of adding Denzel Mims.
Reagor, like Mims, was part of the vaunted 2020 NFL Draft class at receiver and things just haven’t been working out. He’s bouncing around the league a bit, but getting him with Jason Vrable could be huge for his NFL career and he would have a chance to stick it to the Vikings twice a year, eventually.
In this season’s Packers team, the wide receiver corps has a number of young but talented players headlined by Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed. In addition to Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft, they added a former Vikings rookie tight end off waivers. During the offseason, Matt LaFleur was interested in adding a veteran wide receiver to the team.
In spite of this, the Packers have decided to carry a young offensive roster into training camp. Reagor would be an interesting candidate for the Packers to bring on board this season. The 24-year-old wide receiver may not be a veteran, but he does have a few years of NFL experience with potential upside for a team that will need those two attributes in order to be successful this season.
With the potential of one or both of the Packers’ top two wide receivers being out week one, this move may make even more sense.
