Riding on the momentum generated by a Week 2 win against the Indianapolis Colts, the Green Bay Packers are looking to make loud noises again this coming Sunday when they visit the Tennessee Titans. Speaking making noise, Zach Kruse of Packers Wire thinks that Green Bay defensive end Rashan Gary is a player who could have a big day in Week 3.
Will Rashan Gary take advantage of a favorable matchup?
Kruse pointed out the favorable individual matchup Gary can be expected to face on Sunday.
According to Next Gen Stats, Titans right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere allowed 13 pressures on 35 pass-blocking snaps last week against the New York Jets. The 13 pressures allowed set a new NGS record in a single game (data tracked since 2018). Gary lines up almost exclusively against the opponent’s right tackle. Petit-Frere vs. Gary could be one of the biggest mismatches up front in the NFL in Week 3.
Kruse believes that Gary will win his matchup against Petit-Frere. That would be a terrific rebound for Gary, who was barely felt in the win over the Colts. Gary only had an overall rating of 45.5 for his work in Week 2, according to Pro Football Focus. That also accounts for his 51.7 rating in the pass rushing department.
Gary and the Packers defense could be licking this chops already over the prospect of bottling up Titans quarterback Will Levis, who has cracked under pressure in the pocket in the first two weeks, in part because of Tennessee’s seemingly leaky offensive line. On the season, Levis has been sacked seven times and has already thrown three interceptions.
