The Green Bay Packers will be searching for a number one wide receiver for quarterback Jordan Love this offseason. There are many avenues that the Packers could find the answer they are looking for at the position.
Green Bay could find someone in the 2025 NFL Draft, they could sign a free agent like Tee Higgins, or they could trade for someone like Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. However, there is another wide receiver that could be hitting the trade market this offseason. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens could be another name thrown into the mix.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Thinks That George Pickens Could Be Traded This Offseason And Maybe the Green Bay Packers Should Make a Call
The Packers have yet to be linked in trying to make a trade for George Pickens this offseason, but the star Steelers wide receiver could be available for a trade this offseason. Pickens will have one year remaining on his contract and many wonder if Pittsburgh will sign him to a long-term deal or not.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast:
“You either sign him to a long-term deal and give him a bunch of money. You let him play this year—you franchise him—then he’s gone, so you have two years with him. You trade him, because right now is the only time that he’s worth anything. Next year he’s on his last deal anyway.”
This past season with the Steelers, Pickens caught 59 passes for 900 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He also averaged 15.3 yards per catch and was targeted 103 times. George Pickens is only 23 years old and was the 52nd overall pick (second-round selection) in the 2022 NFL Draft from the Georgia Bulldogs.
Pickens Would Become the Number One Wide Receiver In the Offense
There is no doubt that the Packers would love to have a special talent like Pickens in their offense. Quarterback Jordan Love is missing his number-one target. George Pickens almost put up 1,000 yards receiving while having to deal with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
The Green Bay Packers did not have a wide receiver go over 1,000 yards for the last two seasons. Jayden Reed led the Packers in receiving yards this season with 857. He also caught 55 passes and had six touchdown receptions, along with averaging 15.6 yards per reception, and was targeted 75 times.
Green Bay would maybe not have to part ways with a first-round pick for George Pickens, but the Pittsburgh Steelers might want a player like Romeo Doubs in return. There is no doubt that the Packers fanbase would probably take a trade. Pickens has more upside than Doubs does. George Pickens would bring a different element to this offense.
