The Green Bay Packers in 2021 had a regular season record of 13-4, one of two teams that season to win 13 games (the other were the Tampa Bay Bucs). Both the Packers and Tampa Bay saw their win totals in 2022 decrease by five to eight wins, but while the Packers were on-the-outside-looking-in for the 2022 playoffs, the Bucs made the playoffs by winning the NFC South with an 8-9 record.
Rams and Cards had largest decrease in win totals from 2021 to 2022
The Packers were one of six teams to see their win totals decrease by five or more in 2022. The 2021 Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams went from 12-5 in their title season to flipping those numbers in 2022 with a 5-12 record. That seven-win decrease was tied with the Arizona Cardinals for the biggest in the league last season; the Cards were 11-6 in 2021 and finished 4-13 this season.
When it came to increasing win totals, two teams, Detroit and Jacksonville, both increased their win totals from 2021 to 2022 by six wins… but saw different end-of-the-season results. The Lions went from 3-14 to 9-8 and just missed the playoffs. Jacksonville was 3-14 in 2021 and won the AFC South and a playoff berth with a 9-8 season in 2022.
In 2022, 15 teams increased their win totals from 2021, 13 saw their win totals decrease from the previous season, and four teams (Atlanta, Dallas, Miami and Pittsburgh) had the same win totals in 2021 and 2022.
