The Green Bay Packers defensive back Omar Brown was looking forward to making a bigger impact on the team in the 2025 NFL season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers football program product had been turning heads in training camp, as he aimed to be among the chief performers for the Packers’ secondary.

During the Packers’ Family Night, the 24-year-old Brown put on a defensive clinic, as he posted three interceptions in front of nearly 60,000 people.

But he will have to wait for the entire campaign to pass by before he can play in his next game after landing on the injured list because of a chest injury.

Brown suffered the injury during Week 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason versus the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium and was subsequently taken to an Indianapolis hospital.

“Kind of a scary deal,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said about Brown’s injury after the Colts game, which Green Bay won, 23-19 (h/t Christopher Kuhagen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

Brown, who has been placed on the injured reserve, has recently opened up about his hospitalization.

    Via Rob Demovsky of ESPN:

Packers S Omar Brown, who’s on IR, said he spent six nights in the Indiana hospital because of a collapsed lung. He underwent a procedure to, as he said, “close up the leaks.” He’s obviously disappointed his season is over but plans to study the defense “to where I can teach it.”

With Brown down, the Packers will be rolling with a safety crew that features Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams,  Javon Bullard, Zayne Anderson and Kitan Oladapo.

The Packers will open their 2025 campaign on Sept. 7 at Lambeau Field against the visiting Detroit Lions.
