Green Bay Packers fans hoped their team would perform better against the Philadelphia Eagles as they failed to stop their opponents from scoring all over them in their season opener at Sao Paulo. The defense couldn’t stop Saquon Barkley from doing whatever he wanted as he enjoyed doing whatever he wanted on the field.
To make things worse for them, they will have to play a good chunk of the season without their starting quarterback. While Jordan Love’s absence from the team won’t take as much time as some fans feared, it will still have an impact on how the team will fare during the first weeks of the season.
While some may take the starting quarterback getting injured as a sign that the Packers offensive line didn’t improve much over the course of the seaason, one analyst argues that there might be more to the conversation if you take a closer look at the numbers.
Analyst highlights Green Bay Packers’ offensive line strength as Philadelphia Eagles struggled with the pass rush
Athlon Sports’ Nick Faria wrote about the Philadelphia Eagles’ inability to put as much pressure as they could on love before he went down with his injury:
While the Eagles did manage to record two sacks, both of them came courtesy of Zack Baun the linebacker, instead of their high-priced pass rush. Is that something Philadelphia should be concerned about?
The reality is that Week 1 is never a key demarcation point of the struggles a team goes with. After all, the Birds only made one sack in their season-opening game during the 2022 season and ended up recorded a franchise record in sacks during the year.
The opposing D-Line’s inability to put significant pressure on Jordan Love helped the Packers finish the game with a respectable 29-34 final score. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts got taken down the Packers pass rush twice.
The season is still long, and plenty of teams with excellent pass rushers will try to challenge the Green Bay Packers. It’s now up to the offensive line to protect whoever will take Love’s place under center and set up a great record to help him bring the team back to the playoffs.
