The Green Bay Packers 2025 NFL Draft had a lot of good and questionable choices for the franchise. In the early rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, general manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the offensive side of the football rather than addressing the defensive side of the football.

For the first time since 2002, the Packers drafted a wide receiver in the first-round. With the 23rd overall pick, Green Bay selected wide receiver Matthew Golden from the Texas Longhorns. A lot of Packers fans loved the selection. However, did some NFL analysts think that Golden was their best selection throughout the draft or was it another player?
NFL Insider Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Best Pick Was Wide Receiver Savion Williams

Many people thought that the Packers drafting Golden in the first round was a great choice for them and that was probably going to be the only wide receiver they would draft. However, Green Bay decided to draft wide receiver Savion Williams in the third-round of the 2025 NFL Draft from the TCU Horned Frogs.
Pete Prisco of CBS sports thinks that Green Bay’s best pick in the draft was drafting Williams in the third round instead of the Golden selection. Prisco analyzed the best picks and the worst picks for each NFL team in the 2025 NFL Draft. Prisco said,
“I love third-round receiver Savion Williams. He can do a lot of things. He’s raw, but there is a ton of talent. He’s big and fast. He can return kicks, too.”
With Keisean Nixon making comments about not wanting to return kicks in the future, this is probably why they drafted Williams in the third-round. It remains to be seen if he will see the field at wide receiver during his rookie season, but there is no doubt that Golden is going to be the number one wide receiver for quarterback Jordan Love.
Christian Watson will be out for a majority of the 2025 NFL season with a torn ACL. Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks will be in the mix at wide receiver for the Packers. Golden and Williams will also be in the mix to see the field in 2025.
Williams is 6’5″ and weighs 212 lbs. During the 2024 college football season with TCU, he played in 12 games. He caught 60 passes for 611 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 10.2 yards per reception. Williams also rushed for 322 yards on 51 carries and six touchdowns, along with averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
It will be interesting to see how head coach Matt LaFleur uses both wide receivers during the 2025 NFL season. Drafting wide receivers in the draft was not a surprise but using the first three picks on offense rather than defense was a little bit surprising also.
