The Green Bay Packers are one of the NFL teams that fans are most excited to watch this upcoming season. The same was true last offseason as well, but for entirely different reasons. After trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, many were wondering how Jordan Love would fare in his first season as the Packers’ starting quarterback.
The beginning saw Love struggle for a variety of reasons, his own inexperience and that of his young group of pass catchers among them. However, Love and the Packers’ offense put together an impressive second half of the year to finish the season 9-8 and clinch a spot in the NFL Playoffs.
Love finished the year with a 64.2% completion percentage, 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating. In the final 10 games of the season, he threw 21 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions with a passer rating 108.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Is Due for Massive Contract Extension
Prior to last season, Love and the Packers agreed to a two-year contract that bought out his fifth-year option. The final year of that contract is this upcoming season is the last of deal. Even before the offseason programs began this year, rumors swirled about what Green Bay might have to pay Love in order to extend him.
Thanks in large part to the massive extensions Jared Goff and Trevore Lawrence received from the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars (respectively), there is chatter that Love could become the first player in NFL history to make $60 million a year.
Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum went so far as to say the Packers should be looking into giving Love a ten-year contract worth $600 million.
Green Bay Packers Pass Rusher Rashan Gary Has a Bold Message Concerning Jordan Love
While there are now many Jordan Love fans out there now, Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary might be one of the most vocal ones. During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show last season, Gary said:
“And I just can’t wait to see Jordan Love go out there and put his hard work out there. Because I’ve seen him from the time he walked into Green Bay getting better day by day.”
Now that the world has seen what Gary was talking about, the edge rusher has another message for fans:
“People haven’t seen nothing yet. The things that he’s been doing in camp that you can’t see. The practice tape that you can’t see. The throws that he’s doing, how he’s putting them on the money. It’s ridiculous right now.”
If what Gary says is true, $60 million could end up being a bargain.
