The Green Bay Packers are expected to be one of the teams that will compete for a spot in the NFL Playoffs coming out of the NFC. While many believe the Detroit Lions will repeat as NFC North Champions, the Packers are a favorite to earn a top wild card spot. This is, of course, based on the belief that Jordan Love and his young group of pass catchers will take the next step in 2024.
While they got off to a slow at the beginning of 2023, Love and the Packers went 7-3 in their final 10 games and upset the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs. This late season success is what has led many to believe they are primed to take the next step towards Super Bowl contention in 2024.
PFF Believes Green Bay Packers Rookie Tackle Jordan Morgan May Cost Them a Chance at the Super Bowl

In order to compete for a Super Bowl, the Packers needed to address a couple of positions of need in the offseason. They signed high-profile free agents Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs to refortify the safety and running back positions respectively, but turned to the NFL Draft to help other needs.
In particular, Green Bay drafted three offensive linemen to make up for the three that departed via free agency or being released (Jon Runyan Jr., Yosh Nijman, and David Bakhtiari).
Of course, the first of these drafted linemen was Jordan Morgan, whom the Packers took with the 25th overall pick. After they drafted him, Brian Gutekunst said their plan was to give him a chance to win the starting left tackle job that was held by Bakhtiari and Rasheed Walker last season.
PFF, though, thinks this could cost the Packers a chance at the Super Bowl. In an article that listed the reason each NFL team could miss out on the Big Game, they listed Morgan as the starting left tackle as the Packers’ reason:
“The expectation is that Morgan will open the season as the Packers’ starting left tackle, replacing Rasheed Walker who was deputizing for David Bakhtiari in 2023.
“Bakhtiari has battled injuries over the past few years but was one of the best pass-blockers in the NFL when healthy. Unlike Guyton in Dallas, Morgan isn’t switching sides as a rookie, and he put up an 87.1 pass-blocking grade at left tackle at Arizona in 2023. Still, just five rookies earned a better pass-blocking grade than Walker’s 74.7 last year, so the expectation is that he might be a downgrade to start.”
While this may seem like something that could cost the Packers on face value, one must remember that many pointed to Bakhtiari being injured for the 2020 NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a reason why the Packers did not win it all that year.
Will Jordan Morgan Start for the Green Bay Packers?

While the Packers are giving Morgan the chance to win the starting left tackle job, they are by no means handing it to him. Walker played well at left tackle last season and could very well win the job again. Zach Tom, who played right tackle last season, is also a very good option to protect Love’s blindside.
That being said, the Packers have said on multiple ocassions that the best five players are going to start on the offensive line.
Morgan could be one of them, but he has to earn it.
