The Green Bay Packers have finally agreed to a contract with their star quarterback, Jordan Love. A first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Love was finally given the chance to start last season after the Packers traded four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. He responded by putting together the best season by a starting quarterback in his first year starting in franchise history.
Love led the Packers to a 9-8 record and an upset over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs. He finished the regular season with a 64.2% completion percentage, 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns (which was the second-most in the NFL), 11 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating.
Despite the fact that it was only a one-year sample size, Green Bay felt they had seen enough to commit to Love for the foreseeable future.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Signed a Four-Year $220 Million Contract
On Friday night, hours after it was announced that Tua Tagovailoa had agreed to a four-year $212.4 million contract with the Miami Dolphins, news also broke that Love and the Packers had agreed on a four-year deal worth $220 million:
Jordan Love and the Packers have agreed to a 4 year $220M contract, that makes him the highest paid QB in NFL history. He also gets a record $75M Signing Bonus plus $155M in new full gurantees. Deal negotiated by David Mulugheta & Andrew Kessler of Athletes First. pic.twitter.com/dKDtzUrakX

As Schefter notes in the post above, the $75 million signing bonus that Love is receiving is the most in NFL history.
In addition to the signing bonus, Love has more guaranteed money totaling $155 million.
On a per-season level, Love is now making $55 million, which is the same total as Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Green Bay Packers Star Jordan Love May Not Be the NFL’s Highest-Paid Quarterback for Long
While Love became just the third quarterback in NFL history to make $55 million a season, it may not be long until he is surpassed. The Dallas Cowboys and their quarterback, Dak Prescott, have been patiently waiting to see what the Love and Tagovailoa contracts would be.
Now that it is confirmed that they are making $55 million and $53.1 million respectively, it is expected that Prescott’s next contract will surpass both of them.
For weeks, it has been speculated that Prescott will make up to $60 million annually when he finally gets his extension negotiated. Whether it will be the Cowboys who pay him that much is yet to be seen.
Fortunately, the Packers will not have to worry about that. Love is committed to Green Bay for the next five seasons (including this year).
