The Green Bay Packers were back in action for organized team activities (OTA’s) on Wednesday. As the session was open to the media, fans were treated to videos and interviews from favorite players on social media. One of these players was two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Alexander, of course, had a controversial season last year. After skipping voluntary team workouts, he spent much of the year injured and missed an additional game due to a suspension from the team. This season, however, he has been with the team on every single day of their offseason program.
According to Kyle Malzhan, head coach Matt LaFleur said today, “Ja’s been outstanding.” He was highly complimentary of the way Alexander has stepped up as a positive leader in the locker room and among the team’s young defensive backs.
As mentioned, Alexander talked with the media today after practice, and he had some high praise for wide receiver Jayden Reed.
Jaire Alexander Compares Jayden Reed to Green Bay Packers Legend Randall Cobb

Packers second year wide receiver Jayden Reed had one of the most successful rookie seasons of any first-year wide receiver in franchise history. He tallied 64 receptions for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. His 64 receptions were a franchise record for a rookie and his eight touchdowns tied Romeo Doubs for the team lead.
Wide Receiver | Year | Receptions | Yards | Touchdowns |
Billy Howton | 1952 | 53 | 1,231 | 13 |
James Lofton | 1978 | 46 | 818 | 6 |
Sterling Sharpe | 1988 | 55 | 791 | 1 |
Jayden Reed | 2023 | 64 | 793 | 8 |
According to Ryan Wood, Alexander had high praise for Reed today during his media session: “He reminds me of a young Randall Cobb. Only, you know, I think he’s better.”
Both Reed and Cobb are slot wide receivers, so comparing the two makes sense. That being said, saying that Reed is better than a prime Cobb is extremely high praise (that very well might be true).
Randall Cobb’s Career with the Green Bay Packers

Cobb was originally drafted by the Packers in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. His biggest splash on the scene during his rookie season came not as a pass catcher, but as the team’s kick returner. In his very first game, Cobb returned a kick 108 yards for a touchdown.
He would go onto have 1,616 all purpose return yards that year. He also added a punt return touchdown later in the season.
In 10 seasons with the Packers, Cobb amassed 6,316 receiving yards, the 11th most in franchise history. His best season came in 2014 when he had 91 receptions for 1,287 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Cobb was named to the Pro Bowl for the only time in his career that season.
Cobb also amassed 47 receiving touchdowns in his career, which ranks 10th in Packers history.
The future Packers Hall of Famer also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and New York Jets in his career. He is currently a free agent, but may not get signed after having just five receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown in 11 games last season.
