The Green Bay Packers have gone through some significant changes over the past few seasons. Of course, the majority of headlines regarding those changes focus on the players on the field. The transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love at quarterback was, and still is, well-documented. More recently, multiple stories regarding Aaron Jones‘ departure and the signing of Josh Jacobs (and the drafting of Marshawn Lloyd) have been popular topics of discussion.

However, a great deal of change has happened on Matt LaFleur‘s coaching staff, especially within the last few months. After the Packers were knocked out of the NFL Playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, LaFleur made the long-awaited decision to fire defensive coordinator Joe Barry.

In Barry’s place, LaFleur hired Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley to be his new defensive coordinator. The decision to fire Barry also meant that several position coaches were let go; others were reassigned to different roles and some were even promoted.

After being fired by LaFleur and the Packers, former defensive coordinator Joe Barry got a job as the Miami Dolphins’ linebackers coach. This is a position that he formerly held with the Los Angeles Rams before being hired by Green Bay.

Barry’s firing and Hafley’s subsequent hiring also spelled the end of the line for defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery in Green Bay. Up to that point, he had been the team’s longest tenured coach. He is now the defensive line coach for the New England Patriots.

Even before this current offseason, there had been numerous changes on the defensive coaching staff. After being passed up for defensive coordinator, former finished out his contract with the Packers as their defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator and became the assistant head coach/defense for the Atlanta Falcons.

According to a recent report, another coach who moved on from Green Bay following the 2022 season also has just achieved the role of assistant head coach.

According to multiple reports, Aubrey Pleasant has just been promoted to assistant head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. Pleasant has been with the team since last season when he was hired as their defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator.

Pleasant was on the Packers’ coaching staff for a few months in 2022. He was fired by the Detroit Lions halfway through the season that year, and LaFleur hired him as an offensive consultant. Pleasant’s job was to give LaFleur the defense’s perspective on his offensive scheme.

Prior to landing in Green Bay, Pleasant held coaching positions with the Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders, Rams, and Lions.

His prior stint with the Rams saw him as their cornerbacks coach while both LaFleur and Barry were on staff there.
