Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the most polarizing figures in all of sports. While he is undoubtedly one of the best players to ever play in the NFL, his recent off-field extracurricular activities have made him more of a topic on daytime talk shows rather than his play has. Of course, he has not played a game of football in almost a year due to tearing his Achilles tendon in Week One of the 2023 regular season; but he sure has done his best to make sure he is still relevant.
Despite not being able to play in 2023, Rodgers continued to make his weekly appearances on the Pat McAfee Show, something that he has done since his last few seasons with the Packers. Because he was unable to play, much of Rodgers’ discourse floated to political issues and conspiracy theories.
Many may remember that, on one of his last appearances, Rodgers insinuated that comedian Jimmy Kimmel was on the infamous Epstein List, a claim that drew a great deal of criticism for Rodgers, McAfee, and ESPN. It was just the first of a series of unique and unusual interviews that the future Hall of Fame quarterback did this year.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Praised Vladimir Putin Among Other Strange Comments
It has been quite an interesting offseason for those that follow Rodgers and his life off of the football field. As many may remember, there were reports earlier this year that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running for President of the United States, was considering asking Rodgers to be his running mate.
Additionally, Rodgers appeared on a podcast with controversial former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. During this interview, Rodgers claimed that Vladimir Putin was a very interesting and admirable guy. He said that he wishes United States President Joe Biden could talk about the history of his country the same way Putin talked about Russia’s (Putin’s “facts” about Russia have been disproven by historians).
While there is much that can be said about these and other things that Rodgers has done and/or stated this offseason, perhaps the most frustrating part of it all is that he previously told reporters that the most important thing that the New York Jets have to do is to focus completely on football.
Unfortunately, it appears that he is doing anything but following his own advice, and the apparent reason for his recent absence at mandatory minicamp shows that he is not willing to follow his own advice.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers May Be on an Ayahuasca Retreat
In a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, NFL insider Albert Breer had the following to say about Rodgers’ mystery location:
“The best I can answer this right now that I feel solid about is that he is somewhere that they could not excuse and maintain credibility with the rest of the locker room, but would be expected, would not be an out-of-left-field thing for him.
“So you guys can open your mind, so to speak, as he’s been known to open his mind sometimes, into all the possibilities.”
While Breer does not come out and explicitly say that Rodgers is off on an ayahuasca retreat, the phrasing he used was similar to that used by Rodgers when he talked about his retreats on Pat McAfee.
And while Rodgers has every right to take whatever trips he wants, it is concerning that he is, once again, putting himself over his team.
