The Green Bay Packers are eager to make another playoff run this season. After Jordan Love put on an incredible performance as QB1 in the 2024 NFL campaign, hopes are high among the Packers fandom that their franchise QB would repeat his impressive first season under center for the coming season.
However, the one thing that could completely derail the Packers’ Lombardi chase is injuries. While it’s still preseason, having multiple players questionable in their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles spells a rough start for the team’s 2024 campaign.
While the squad is trying to finalize its roster to bring the best possible team to the NFL season, the team made a move to improve their run game. They signed a running back who would prove competition and depth throughout the team’s preseason run.
Green Bay Packers sign Nate McCrary to provide cover in RB room
The Green Bay Packers know that they will need reinforcement for their running back room if they wanted to match their production on the ground with last season’s 1905 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs.
Because of this, they decided to sign Nate McCrary to a deal that would help the squad prepare better for the upcoming season.
This wouldn’t be McCrary’s first foray with the Packers, per Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda:
McCrary’s first stint with the Packers came a little over a year ago when he was let go by the Cleveland Browns — funny enough, the team Green Bay just beat in their preseason opener. After three weeks in Packers training camp, McCrary was let go by Green Bay, eventually leading to a one-week stint on the Browns’ practice squad before he resurfaced in the UFL. Last preseason, McCrary notched 11 carries for 37 yards, which only ranked behind Emanuel Wilson, AJ Dillon and Patrick Taylor Jr. among the Packers’ running backs.
It remains to be seen if the Saginaw Valley State product would be able to secure a contract with the Packers, but the fact that he got another crack at making the roster shows how highly they rate the 25-year-old. It’s now up to make the most of his opportunity and make himself an irreplaceable part of the squad.
