Brayden Narveson is happy to be a part of the Green Bay Packers.
The young kicker went undrafted in the most recent draft, but he showcased more than enough talent, and multiple teams were highly interested in his services. The fact that he beat Greg Joseph, a seasoned NFL kicker, for the kicker position is a testament to the talent and potential the Packers believe he has moving forward.
However, things played out a little differently in Narveson’s head. The North Carolina State product had a different perspective when it came to what his debut campaign in the NFL would look like.
Green Bay Packers’ Brayden Narveson believed he was going to play for the Tennessee Titans in the 2024 season
Narveson understood that while he’s made a decent account for himself in his final collegiate year, he also knew that it would take a while before he gets an opportunity to kick for an NFL team.
He explained his expectations to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, as reported by Yardbarker’s Victor Barbosa:
“I was fully anticipating re-signing with the Titans on the practice squad,” he said, per the report. “Even from the forefront, when they were recruiting me, if you will, during the draft, that was the guiding idea that that was probably what was going to happen. But at the same time, I prepared, I got opportunities in the games, I executed in the games.”
The biggest reason for his thought process of not making the Tennessee roster was Nick Folk. The 39-year-old kicker had the best season of his career, and it would be tough for an unproven rookie to try and grab his spot.
He then explained why the Tennessee cutting him was the best thing to happen for his career:
“(Leaving Tennessee) gave me the chance to come here, and I’m ecstatic,” Narveson said. “I’m excited to be here and I’m going to continue to get better, because I don’t want to stop here and I don’t feel like I’ve arrived.”
The Green Bay Packers are more than happy to give him his opportunity to shine. It’s now up to the rookie to prove Matt LaFleur right and finish his debut NFL season securing his job with the Packers.
