Green Bay Packers: MVS Recruiting 1 More Significant Former Teammate to Kansas City

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a Super Bowl Champion. Now that he has achieved that career goal, it appears that he is trying to get some of his buddies from Green Bay to come and try to repeat with him and the Kansas City Chiefs. First, he voiced support for fellow wide receiver Allen Lazard getting paid as much as possible while also begging him to come join him in Kansas City. Now, MVS is pleading his case to Robert Tonyan who will become an unrestricted free agent next week:

Yo @RobTonJr wanna come hang out with your old buddy in KC for a few months out of the year and play some football?

Will Robert Tonyan Leave the Green Bay Packers?

As it stands, the only tight end on the Packers’ roster for 2023 with any NFL experience is Josiah Deguara. Both Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis are unrestricted free agents, as is Tyler Davis. In other words, the Packers have no depth at the position.

With Aaron Rodgers seemingly moving on to the New York Jets, the Packers may be interested in bringing Tonyan back as a big target for Jordan Love. Back in 2020, Tonyan tied the Packers’ record for most touchdown receptions in a season with 11. Last season, he set career highs in targets (67) and receptions (53). Additionally, Tonyan played stronger as the season went on and his ACL, which he tore in 2021, got stronger.

It is very likely that the Packers will address the tight end position in the NFL Draft. However, they will also likely want to have a veteran back who knows the offense. Tonyan will likely be an affordable option. The Packers also have the advantage of offering him more targets in the passing game than the Chiefs who have All-World tight end Travis Kelce as a main component of their offense.

MVS may want Tonyan with him in Kansas City, but it doesn’t make much sense for Tonyan.
