The Green Bay Packers made the playoffs last season with a 9-8 record. It was a surprise that they even made it after starting last season with a 2-5 record. Green Bay had to deal with struggles from quarterback Jordan Love to start last season. He was able to get it all together.
Because of his performance toward the end of last season, Green Bay was able to sign him to a contract extension this past weekend. They also signed defensive tackle Kenny Clark to a contract extension this offseason. Those are two cornerstone pieces the Green Bay Packers were able to sign to long-term deals.
It will be interesting to see what happens moving forward with the Packers. The NFC North will not be an easy division this season. The Detroit Lions will be good again and the Chicago Bears will be much better. The Minnesota Vikings will also be respectable.
CBS Sports Will Brinson Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Will Miss the Playoffs In 2024
Brinson of CBS Sports thinks that the Green Bay Packers are going to miss the playoffs in 2024. He thinks that there will be six other teams who made the playoffs last season, who could potentially miss the postseason. Will Brinson of CBS Sports said about the Packers missing the playoffs in 2024:
“The Packers have pretty heavy odds (-155) to make the playoffs, indicating Vegas expects a big season from Matt LaFleur’s squad. They performed about even with their win expectancy, falling 0.4 wins short of what their point differential suggested. The Packers also went 6-5 in one-score games, so there’s not a ton of underlying regression looming.
What really stands out to me with Green Bay is the massive disparity in Jordan Love’s first half of the season against his second half of 2023.
That’s just two totally different quarterbacks. And the Packers were not good during that first stretch, losing against the Steelers in Week 10 to fall to 3-6 and causing GM Brian Gutekunst to openly admit he wasn’t sure if Love was the guy moving forward. “The guy” after that was an MVP candidate — Love’s 17-game pace with those stats would be 4,569 yards, 36 touchdowns and two interceptions. He’d win the MVP award in a landslide if he put those numbers up over the course of a full year.
And it’s easy to say he simply started to develop into a legitimate franchise quarterback. The Packers certainly paid him like one this offseason. But Love was also an inconsistent QB in college, a very streaky player.
If he struggles out of the gate to start the 2024 season or we get the guy from the first half of the season over the course of a full year, the Packers probably won’t make the playoffs. I’m not saying that will happen, but blindly assuming Love will be the second-half guy over a full year is asking a bit much.”
It appears that Jordan Love got better this offseason. He can not afford to get off to slow starts in games this season. Love improved with that during the end of the 2023 season. Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed are the top receiving options for the Packers.
The offense would not be the reason why Green Bay would miss the playoffs. The defense and the special teams would probably be the reason why the Green Bay Packers would miss. It would also come with the Detroit Lions being good once again and with the Chicago Bears being much improved in the conference also.
