There may be few NFL coaches that know Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers and his play better than Mike McCarthy. After all, McCarthy helped Rodgers develop in the NFL, helped him lead the Packers to Super Bowl XLV, and saw him win two of his four MVP Awards. Despite the friction that existed between the two towards the end of McCarthy’s tenure in Green Bay, the two have buried the hatchet and have a mutual respect for each other.

During his media session at the NFL Combine on Wednesday, McCarthy was asked about Rodgers and his “down” year in 2022.

Last season, Rodgers had what many would consider a “down year.” His numbers all declined from 2020-21:

    • 64.6 completion percentage
    • 3,695 yards
    • 26 touchdowns
    • 12 interceptions
    • 91.1 passer rating

Despite the declining numbers, Mike McCarthy stated, “I still think Aaron is playing top-level football.”

When McCarthy last coached the Packers in 2018, Rodgers’ numbers were as follows:

    • 62.3 completion percentage
    • 4,442 yards
    • 25 touchdowns
    • two interceptions
    • 97.6 passer rating
