Green Bay Packers rookie quarterback Michael Pratt is competing with Sean Clifford to be the backup quarterback to Jordan Love for the 2024 season. Pratt was a seventh-round selection out of Tulane in the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a shock that he was still available in the seventh round. Some mock drafts had him going earlier in the draft.
Sean Clifford has not had a strong offseason and training camp for Green Bay. Some think that his stock is plummeting. Pratt may have a higher upside entering the 2024 season.
Whoever wins the backup job for Green Bay, the fanbase needs to hope that Jordan Love does not get hurt. He has been tremendous ever since returning to the field after signing his contract extension.
Green Bay Packers Rookie Quarterback Michael Pratt Takes Reps As Quarterback 2 During Practice
There was a change of pace for the Packers during camp on Tuesday. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic said about the rookie quarterback:
“Looks like Michael Pratt is QB2 today, at least for red-zone and end-of-practice drive. Dont know if it’s just experimenting or if related to performance or injury with Clifford, who I believe threw two picks today. Pratt hits Sims for big gain down seam to set up winning FG.”
Sean Clifford has been no stranger to throwing interceptions against defenses this offseason. This could be the beginning of the end for Clifford as the backup quarterback on the roster. Maybe Pratt finally took the lead as the backup quarterback on Green Bay’s roster.
The Packers will next play a preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday and they will also have a joint practice on Friday in Denver, Colorado. Jordan Love may not play at all against the Broncos. It will most likely be Sean Clifford and Pratt playing in the game.
Against the Cleveland Browns, he completed 5-of-7 passes for 46 yards. Sean Clifford completed 10-of-19 passes for 111 yards in the game. If Love is not the starter on Sunday night, it will be really interesting to see who he names as the starter. If LaFleur does name Michael Pratt as the starter, it means that he has the lead in the backup quarterback race for the 2024 season.
