The Green Bay Packers drafted quarterback Michael Pratt in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Tulane. At the time, it was a surprise to see Pratt still available in the seventh round. Pratt has not exactly lit it up in training camp or in the preseason, but some think he will be the backup quarterback over Sean Clifford.
It also remains to be seen if either Pratt or Clifford will still be on the team by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. It would be an interesting surprise to see both of them cut by Tuesday and only have quarterback Jordan Love on the roster.
Brian Sampson of Dairylandexpress.com Thinks That Green Bay Packers Quarterback Michael Pratt Will Not Make the Team
Brian Sampson of dairylandexpress.com predicts that Michael Pratt will be one of his 12 cut candidates by Tuesday’s deadline. Sampson said about this prediction:
“The quarterback battle between Michael Pratt, a 2024 seventh-round pick, and Sean Clifford, a 2023 fifth-rounder, was, to put it kindly, underwhelming.
Clifford failed to impress in his final two preseason games, showing a troubling tendency for turnovers and struggling to move the ball with any consistency. Yet, despite Clifford’s shaky performances, Pratt couldn’t do enough to leapfrog him on the depth chart.
In Saturday’s game against the Ravens, Pratt completed 8 of 12 passes for 80 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. While the touchdown pass was a highlight—a beautiful display of his potential—the interception was a head-scratcher that underscored his inexperience. It was a step in the right direction, but not quite enough to secure a roster spot.
Clifford is likely to make the team, if only because of his familiarity with the offense and rapport with the players. The Packers, however, will likely try to stash Pratt on the practice squad, where he can continue to develop without the pressure of being on the active roster. Given his performance, it’s unlikely another team will swoop in to claim him, allowing him to stay in Green Bay and prepare for his next opportunity—whether it’s with the Packers or another team down the road.”
It would be a surprise to see the Green Bay Packers cut Michael Pratt since he was better than Sean Clifford. Although, there is a chance that both Pratt and Clifford could be cut by Tuesday’s deadline.
Other Options For the Packers
If Michael Pratt and Sean Clifford were to both be cut, there are some options that the Packers could pursue. They could sign Ryan Tannehill off the free-agent market. It is still a surprise that he is still a free agent.
Green Bay could go after Mike White because he was let go by the Miami Dolphins. Taylor Heinicke of the Atlanta Falcons could also be cut by Tuesday because they already have Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr. on the roster. Bailey Zappe could be another option for the Green Bay Packers and many think he will not make the 53-man roster for the New England Patriots this season.
