There is no assurance that quarterback Michael Pratt will make the Green Bay Packers’ final cut ahead of the 2024 NFL season. He certainly tried in the training camp and in the preseason to put together his best case for a backup role behind Jordan Love, who has taken over the starting gig since Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in 2023.
But at the end of the day, Pratt’s fate in Green Bay is not entirely in his hands, as he awaits the team’s decision on whether he’d be part of the 53-man roster or not.
Via Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com:
“There’s a lot of tough decisions that are gonna have to be made,” rookie quarterback Michael Pratt said. “There’s some really good football players in this (locker) room. Whatever’s best for this team and whatever is gonna have the impact to win the most games here is what’s most important.”
Michael Pratt in the 2024 NFL preseason
Pratt was taken by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft. His chief rival for the QB2 role is Sean Clifford, who has more experience than Pratt. That said, Clifford appeared in only two games last season with the Packers, so there’s not much from his 2023 campaign to make clear conclusions.
In the 2024 preseason, Pratt completed 23 of his 35 throws for 178 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception while making 65.7 percent of his passes. In the Packers’ preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens at home, Pratt seemingly outplayed Clifford by a narrow margin. Pratt had 80 yards on 8/12 completions with a TD and INT, while Clifford went 6/14 for 53 passing yards and a touchdown with zero picks.
