Green Bay Packers: Micah Parsons reacts to defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley leaving for Miami Dolphins

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to terms on a contract extension with head coach Matt LaFleur. Additionally, they are working on contract extensions with general manager Brian Gutekunst and salary cap wizard Russ Ball. New Packers President and CEO Ed Policy felt it was important to get these deals done quickly in the offseason so that the team can move forward as it chases a Super Bowl in 2026.

However, the Packers are going to have to find a new defensive coordinator, as Jeff Hafley was hired on Monday as the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Former Green Bay executive Jon Eric-Sullivan was recently hired as Miami’s general manager, and Hafley had been the long-time favorite to land the head coaching job.

Hafley spent the last two seasons in Green Bay after four years as the head coach at Boston College. In 2025, he got the opportunity to coach All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons, who was acquired by the Packers in a trade right before the season started.

All season long, Parsons raved about his defensive coordinator, and after the season was over said he did not think Hafley was going anywhere.

But now that Hafley did, in fact, go elsewhere, Parsons is wishing him well:

Genuinely happy for haf! Great guy great person! Gonna miss his energy! https://t.co/GjzNPeRYle

Parsons had 12.5 sacks in 14 games with Hafley as his defensive coordinator, becoming the first player in NFL history to have 12+ sacks in each of his first five seasons.

Now, Green Bay is going to be on the lookout for a new defensive coordinator. One would imagine that the chance to work with Parsons, one of the best defensive players in the NFL, will be an attractive draw to any potential candidate.
