The Green Bay Packers are looking forward to facing the New Orleans Saints on Monday night football. Green Bay is 10-4 this season and New Orleans is 5-9 this season. The Packers with a win on Monday night football would clinch a spot in the playoffs. The Saints have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.
This is a game that Green Bay has to win against New Orleans. One of the biggest issues for the Packers this season has been finding a consistent pass rush.
Lombardiavenue.com Writer Freddie Boston Thinks That Miami Dolphins Calais Campbell Could Be Perfect Addition For the Green Bay Packers If Made Available
There are just a couple of games left in the 2024 NFL regular season. Freddie Boston of lombardiavenue.com said:
“It’s rare to make an in-season addition that has a significant impact on your team.”
Green Bay did not make many moves at the NFL trade deadline this year. They were sellers last year at the NFL trade deadline. However, Miami Dolphins Calais Campbell was almost traded at the NFL trade deadline this year. Miami is 7-8 and they have their slim playoff hopes alive entering Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season.
Freddie Boston of Lombardiavenue.com said:
“According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, if the Dolphins get eliminated, waiving Campbell so he can join a contender is “still in play.” Campbell also said it’s a possibility.
Campbell would have to clear waivers, which is both a positive and negative for the Packers.
In theory, any team could put in a waiver claim. Nothing is preventing the Las Vegas Raiders, who currently hold the top priority, from making a claim. However, if Campbell leaves Miami to compete for a Super Bowl, we can assume he wouldn’t play for a team he didn’t want to join. That effectively rules out any eliminated teams.
Playoff-bound teams ahead of the Packers in the waiver priority include the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, Green Bay would have priority over the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs, which is potentially notable.
If Campbell cleared waivers, he would become a free agent. The Packers would have the chance to sign him but would have to overcome potential competition from other contenders.”
At this point, it seems unlikely that the Dolphins would put Calais Campbell on waivers. This season with Miami, he has recorded 46 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble, and five pass deflections. Campbell is 38 years old. It’s a nice thought to have Campbell on the Green Bay Packers, but it feels unrealistic.
Should Have Made a Trade Earlier In the Season
If Green Bay wanted Calais Campbell earlier this season, they should have traded for him then. However, the Packers probably did not want to give up a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft because Green Bay will host the draft then.
There is also a chance that Miami is still alive for a playoff spot in the AFC come Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season. Campbell would have made the Packers’ defense better.
