Some Green Bay Packers fans have tempered expectations coming in to the 2025 NFL draft but they definitely outdid themselves as the consensus, not just among Wisconsin fans but also the whole NFL community, is that they made a great selection.

The Packers selected Matthew Golden for their 23rd pick in the first round, the first time in 23 years they did that.

Former Green Bay Packers coach calls pick ‘win-win’
Mike McCarthy, who had a brief stint as Packers coach, was present during the draft proper and he, too, can’t help but be hyped.
He thinks Packers had a great catch in Golden. In fact, he holds the 21-year-old wide receiver in high regard as early as now.
“Don’t be surprised if he was the highest rated guy on their board,” McCarthy said during an appearance at the McAfee show shortly after the draft program.

“This is a win-win right here. You’ve got a very highly rated wide receiver at the right time and obviously it gives them a huge boost to their offense.”
The 2025 NFL draft will resume tomorrow with Packers set to select 54th overall in the second round.
