With wild card weekend in the books, the Green Bay Packers season is over and they will have the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. There are a lot of needs for the Packers this offseason.
Some of the needs will be the defensive line, cornerback, and a number-one wide receiver. The Green Bay Packers finished with an 11-7 record this season.
Dairylandexpress.com Writer Brian Sampson Thinks That Wide Receiver Matthew Golden From the Texas Longhorns Should Be In Consideration For the 23rd Overall Pick In the 2025 NFL Draft
Dairylandexpress.com writer Brian Sampson thinks that the Green Bay Packers should take a wide receiver with the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Matthew Golden from the Texas Longhorns is one of five players that Green Bay should take in the first round. Sampson said:
“Wide receiver wasn’t supposed to be an issue for the Packers heading into 2024. With a group of young, promising players, it looked like a position of strength. Instead, the room fell flat.
None of the receivers took the leap Green Bay needed, and injuries only made matters worse. Christian Watson’s ACL tear casts doubt on his 2025 availability, while Romeo Doubs’ second serious concussion in a month raises long-term concerns.
The Packers struggled to create separation all season, making wide receiver a clear priority in the draft. Matthew Golden, who posted 58 catches for 987 yards and nine touchdowns last year, could be exactly what this team needs. His explosiveness and versatility make him a perfect fit for LaFleur’s system, with the ability to line up anywhere on the field.
Golden’s ability to beat man coverage would address one of Green Bay’s most glaring issues. He can give the Packers the dynamic presence they’ve been missing and quickly become a favorite among fans. If Green Bay is serious about retooling its offense, Golden’s name should be near the top of their draft board.”
The Texas Longhorns have been producing wide receivers in the NFL over the last couple of seasons. Matthew Golden was the number-one receiver for Quinn Ewers this season. Golden goes up for jump balls and that is something that Green Bay needs for quarterback Jordan Love.
Uncertainty At the Wide Receiver Position
Christian Watson may not be available for the 2025 season for the Green Bay Packers with a torn ACL. Romeo Doubs could be traded this offseason. If those two are gone, then there is a chance that they will need to be replaced.
Green Bay could very well sign Tee Higgins. Drafting Matthew Golden would also be a good move for the Packers. A receiving core of Higgins, Golden, and Jayden Reed in 2025 for the Green Bay Packers could be very different for them.
