A lot will be riding this season for Jordan Love. We’ve all heard this story too many times and at this point, it is abundantly clear that the pressure is going to be extremely high for the young quarterback as he looks to step into the same role the great Aaron Rodgers just vacated a few months ago.
Green Bay Packers Coach Challenging Jordan Love’s Cadence
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, who himself spent several years coaching Rodgers, also knows that it’s a big year ahead for Love. He too has a lot of expectations on his new QB1, and by his own admission, one particular issue that LaFleur wants to address early on with Love is the latter’s cadence:
“The one thing we’ve challenged him on is it’s got to sound real,” LaFleur said of Love, via Peter King of NBC Sports. “It can’t be like … A lot of times I think quarterbacks get up there and they’re so worried about the offense false-starting that they don’t do it as hard or they don’t have the voice inflection at the same level as they would if they were using normal cadence. The ‘huts’ sound different. So Jordan’s is a little bit softer. That’s one thing that we’ve had to talk to him about. You’ve got to trust those other 10 guys around you that they’re not going to move.
“I mean, we never would’ve talked about that before.”
When it comes to cadence, Aaron Rodgers is one of the best in the business. LaFleur and the Packers know this all too well, and to a certain extent, so does Love. The good news for the former first-round pick is that he spent three years under the tutelage of one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever pick up a football. Surely, he must have learned a thing or two along the way.
Don’t expect Jordan Love to blow everyone away from the get-go, though. His cadence is merely one of the issues that the young man will have to work on in his first season as the Packers’ primary quarterback. However, the kid’s head is in the right place, so there’s definitely a lot to get excited about for Green Bay fans everywhere.
