The Green Bay Packers have a tough challenge ahead of them this coming Sunday. They will be put to a tough test at home against the visiting Minnesota Vikings, who are undefeated through the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL regular season. A big reason for the success of the Vikings so far this season, apart from the surprisingly strong play of quarterback Sam Darnold under center, is their defense behind the guidance of defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur speaks up about the Minnesota Vikings’ defense
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur got glowing praise from Flores recently, but LaFleur also returned the favor by giving his honest take on Minnesota’s stop unit under Flores, who has been with Minnesota since the 2023 season.
Via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
I think Flores’ praise was genuine and LaFleur returned it, saying this week, “He’s one of the most challenging guys to go against in this league … they play physical, they’re doing a great job of getting after the quarterback, the run game is a challenge to go against. They give you a lot of different looks and I think much like we talk about the illusion of complexity, where we like to give looks that are difficult on the defense but simple for us, I feel like that’s what they do.”
The Vikings arguably have the best defense in the NFL right now. They will be bringing to the Packers game a unit that is allowing just 10.0 points per game. Minnesota’s run defense is elite and could pose lots of issues for the Packers, who have been so reliant on their ground attack of late.
Minnesota is giving up just 71.3 rushing yards per contest. Against the pass, the Vikings seem to be just as dangerous, thanks in large part to their pass rush. Minnesota is leading the NFL with 16 sacks.
