Not many fans know what general manager Brian Gutekunst or head coach Matt LaFleur have in store for the night. There is a chance that Green Bay could either trade back or trade up in this year’s draft. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Packers shocked everyone when they traded up for Utah State Aggies quarterback Jordan Love. At the time, Green Bay didn’t need to draft a quarterback in the first round.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Discusses Story About Drafting Jordan Love

LaFleur appeared on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday before the NFL Draft takes place in Green Bay. He also mentioned about how he no regrets about trading up in the 2020 NFL Draft to select Love. LaFleur said,
“If you don’t have a quarterback in today’s game, you’re screwed. Let’s just throw it out there. It’s just tough. So you need to have that position solidified, and we’re lucky we got him. He’s not only a great player, but I think he’s an even better person.”
Green Bay moved up a few spots in the 2020 NFL Draft to select him 26th overall. Love did not start right away. He sat and learned behind Aaron Rodgers for a few NFL seasons before coming the full-time starter in 2023. After the 2023 season, he received a contract extension.
The Packers will be looking to find a number one wide receiver for Love at some point in the NFL Draft. It maybe drafting in one in the first or second round or maybe trading for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. However, LaFleur also mentioned in that draft they would have considered taking wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Brandon Aiyuk, but they were both already gone by then.
Jefferson was drafted 22nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings and Aiyuk was drafted 25th overall by the San Francisco 49ers. It turned out for the best that the Packers drafted Love. A lot of people had questions about the selection at the time, but Love has worked out so far for LaFleur and this football team also.
