The Green Bay Packers have had smooth sailing with head coach Matt LaFleur for the first four seasons in his tenure, and then there has been a rough patch in the fifth year. Green Bay did miss the playoffs a season ago with an 8-9 record, and they are off to a 2-5 start this season.
When LaFleur entered this season, he had a 47-19 record. Among all coaches with at least 50 games on their resume, LaFleur had a .712 winning percentage, the fourth-best of all time. Who were the only other three coaches to be ahead of him on that list? They were Guy Chamberlin with a .784 winning percentage, John Madden with a .750 winning percentage, and Vince Lombardi with a .738 winning percentage.
During the course of this season, Matt LaFleur has had to deal with the transition of Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love. With Green Bay off to a slow start this season and on the verge of missing the postseason for the second consecutive season, some fans want him fired. However, will he be fired during the season, or will he get a pass?
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Will Get a Pass For This Season But Will Need to Make the Playoffs in 2024, or There Can Be Changes
With LaFleur being successful for the first few seasons, he will get a pass for them being bad again. Matt LaFleur had to deal with the Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love transition, and he probably knows that Love isn’t the answer moving forward. Many of LaFleur’s problems fall more on general manager Brian Gutekunst than himself.
However, LaFluer does need to do a better job of getting Aaron Jones and Christian Watson touches. He must change his coaching staff this offseason, especially defensive coordinator Joe Barry. If Green Bay misses the playoffs next season or they get off to another 2-5 start like this season, Matt LaFleur will be fired as head coach.
Before Josh McDaniels of the Las Vegas Raiders got fired as head coach on Wednesday morning, he was the betting favorite on BetOnline.ag at +200 to be the first head coach fired of the 2023 season. Matt LaFleur had +650 odds on BetOnline.ag to be the first head coach fired before then.
LaFleur probably will not get fired this season, although it would be a shock if it did. The next head coach that will most likely get fired is Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, who had +250 odds on BetOnline.ag to be the first head coach fired during the NFL season.

Currently, Green Bay owns the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. If they get a Top 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, head coach Matt LaFleur better have a say in the quarterback search, or he will be the scapegoat next season for Gutekunst’s failures.

Too bad we don’t have an owner like Al and Mark Davis La failure would have been fired after the Tampa Bay debacle in the championship game the clown is constantly out coached and look at record after the Bye.
Sadly Mark Murphy is the Wisconsin version of Joe Biden and they aren’t getting any better anytime soon
