The Green Bay Packers defense was not special during the 34-29 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night in Brazil. Head coach Matt LaFleur also spoke with reporters on Monday to preview the upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts, which will be the Packers home opener.
Green Bay’s defense will need to be sharper against Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson and running back Jonathan Taylor. They struggled to contain running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts had a decent day.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Makes Announcement About Rookie Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper
Packers rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper made his NFL debut on Friday night. He was a second-round pick from Texas A&M in the 2024 NFL Draft. In the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cooper recorded four tackles and had one pass deflection.
Head coach Matt LaFleur said to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic about Edgerrin Cooper moving forward:
““I would anticipate him getting more time moving forward.”
LaFleur also added that he wasn’t perfect by any means, but he liked what he saw from him. The Green Bay Packers defense as a whole unit will need to be better moving forward until quarterback Jordan Love returns from his sprained MCL injury.
Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie Also Playing Linebacker For Green Bay
Quay Walker recorded the most tackles on Friday night against the Eagles for the Packers with 11. Rookie safety Javon Bullard also recorded 11 in his NFL debut. He was also a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from Georgia. Walker is the star linebacker on this football team. He played well.
As for Isaiah McDuffie, he recorded six tackles. Edgerrin Cooper will need to step up for Green Bay throughout the season. They are very thin at the position and will need to rely on him to make plays. This is why he was a second-round selection in the draft.
