Both the Green Bay Packers and their former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, could not make it past the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs, and both now face legitimate questions regarding how they will navigate their respective futures.
For the Packers, who lost 31-27 to the Chicago Bears on Saturday night, they have to determine whether or not they will retain head coach Matt LaFleur. According to reports, the team wants to give him a contract extension, but there is still uncertainty as to whether the two parties will be able to come to an agreement.
Rodgers, on the other hand, is out of the postseason after his Pittsburgh Steelers were defeated soundly by the Houston Texans by the score of 30-6 on Monday night. As has been the case for several years now, he is not sure if he will now retire or come back for another NFL season.

Ever since Green Bay lost to Chicago, there has been plenty of debate among fans and the media regarding whether or not LaFleur should be brought back to the Packers in 2026.
Rodgers, who played for LaFleur from 2019-2022, took some time during his postgame press conference on Monday night to express how ridiculous it is that his former coach is on the “hot seat.”
“This league has changed a lot in my 21 years. When you hear conversations about the Mike Tomlins & Matt LaFleur’s of the world … When I first got in the league there wouldn’t be conversation about whether those guys were on the hot seat.
“But the way the league is covered now, the way that there’s snap decisions and the validity given to the Twitter experts and all the experts on TV now who make seem like they know what the hell they’re talking about, to me that’s an absolute joke.”
While LaFleur and Rodgers likely do not communicate regularly now that they are on different teams, the comments were certainly heard or seen by the Packers head coach, who told The Athletic, “I’m speechless. He didn’t have to do that, but he did. (It’s) one of the nicest compliments (of) my life. I’m so appreciative of him for that.”
Rodgers won two NFL MVP Awards with LaFleur as his head coach and Green Bay reached the NFC Championship Game twice while the two were paired together.
And while some fans may have thought that their relationship took a hit when the Packers decided to move on from Rodgers in 2023, it clearly is still a strong one built on mutual respect for the other.
