Former Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby recently shared a post on Instagram about his feelings about the Chicago Bears’ move to hire Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as the franchise’s next head coach.
“Ben Johnson as the #chicagobears next head coach! You bring that Pizzazz Ben!,” Crosby wrote as a caption to a video of a clip of his podcast, “Kickin’ it With Crosby”.
Johnson is staying in the NFC North, but with another Green Bay Packers rival
The news of Johnson agreeing to a deal with the Bears came on the heels of Detroit’s playoff elimination last Saturday at Ford Field at the hands of Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
Despite the embarrassing early playoff exit by the Lions, Johnson clearly made a mark as the architect of Detroit’s high-flying offense that topped all teams in the 2024 NFL regular season with an average of 33.1 points per game. The Lions were also second in total offense with 415.7 total yards per outing.
Crosby, who played 16 years with the Green Bay Packers, seemed excited for the Bears over the Johnson hire. The Bears reportedly interviewed as many as 17 candidates for the head-coaching gig, including Johnson, who also had interviews with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots.
The Bears could definitely use an upgrade in their coaching staff after a season in which they ranked just 28th in the NFL with 18.2 points per game.
