The Green Bay Packers had several players who the team was rumored to move on from this offseason possibly. The Packers have not yet signed several free agents from the 2022 roster, including Adrian Amos, Marcedes Lewis, and Mason Crosby. It was speculated the Packers could draft a replacement for David Bakhtiari this weekend. However, the Packers took a player that should take one former starter’s spot.

It would be unlikely for the Packers to keep two kickers on the roster for next season. It looks like the Packers are going with Carlson.
According to Matt Schneidman with The Athletic, the Packers are likely ready to move on from Mason Crosby. The Packers wouldn’t draft a kicker and then sign a relatively expensive kicker in Crosby next season.
Identified Carlson as one of four Packers seventh-round targets in this morning's story. That might be the end for Mason Crosby, who never missed a game in the regular season or playoffs since the Packers took him in the sixth round in 2007. First K drafted here since then.

Carlson spoke about Crosby after he was picked by the Packers. Carlson called Crosby a legend:
“I just know the legend that he is … I wanna acknowledge the legacy that he created.”

Crosby might be handing the torch to Carlson here in Green Bay.
Carlson and Crosby were both sixth-round picks. The Packers are moving on to a young roster for the offense. It only makes sense they’d take a rookie kicker in this draft to help score points with the new core around Jordan Love.
