The Green Bay Packers have had several rookies contribute to the team a season ago. Green Bay hopes some of the rookies will also contribute again this season. A season ago, some of the rookies who emerged onto the scene were Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, and others.

Some Green Bay Packers fans have been critical of general manager Brian Gutekunst’s drafting over the past several years. They were critical this year when they drafted offensive tackle Jordan Morgan from Arizona with the 24th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

There were many defensive backs available for the Green Bay Packers to draft in the first round, but they failed to address that position. Green Bay will need some rookies to help out right away.

CBS Sports Thinks That Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Llloyd Will Be One of the Productive Running Backs As a Rookie This Season

The 2024 NFL Draft did not feature a strong running back class by any means. However, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso ranked his top five running backs entering the 2024 season who will be the most productive this NFL season.

He had Green Bay Packers rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd on the list and he was ranked fifth. The four other running backs who were ranked ahead of Lloyd were Tyrone Tracy Jr. of the New York Giants, Bucky Irving of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kimani Vidal of the Los Angeles Chargers, and Trey Benson of the Arizona Cardinals.

CBS Sports Chris Trapasso said about Marshawn Lloyd only being ranked fifth on this list:

“The Packers made one of the stranger running back decisions of the offseason, allowing Aaron Jones to depart in free agency — and eventually sign with the Vikings — instead paying Josh Jacobs two years removed from his 340-attempt, 1,653-yard season (both of which led the league and immediately following his 2023 in which he averaged 3.5 yards per rush. Now, Jacobs is only 26 years old, and playing on a deal worth $14 million per year, you can write him in permanent marker as Green Bay’s lead back to start the season.

I don’t believe, though, that money will make him the permanent top dog in the Packers backfield in 2024. Lloyd is a rare cat. He’s about as thick as they come at the running back spot — under 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds at the combine, yet, interestingly, the former South Carolina and USC back doesn’t have a game predicated on pure power. In fact, last year with the Trojans, his forced-missed tackle rate was a whopping 40.8% on 115 carries. As the season progresses, watch how Lloyd starts to earn more of a share of the carries in what should be a fantastic Packers offense.”

Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich wants to use Marshawn Lloyd often in his offense this season. Lloyd will start training camp as the third running back on the depth chart behind A.J. Dillon and Josh Jacobs. Marshawn Lloyd’s name will be heard throughout training camp.

Running back MarShawn Lloyd (32) is shown during organized team activities for the Green Bay Packers Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

We will see when Lloyd gets on the playing field for the Packers. Green Bay does not want to run Josh Jacobs into the ground and this is why Marshawn Lloyd is going to play quite a bit as a rookie.
