There is a new quarterback in town for the Green Bay Packers, as they recently acquired Malik Willis. The Packers got Willis in a trade with the Tennessee Titans late last August in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Willis will be seen on the field still wearing the same number he had during his first two seasons in the league with the Titans.
“I didn’t pick it,” Willis said when asked about why he is sporting No. 2 on his jersey, per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “They just gave me 2.”
Willis then said that he used to play with a No. 7 jersey for biblical reasons.
“I always had 7. Because that’s how long it took God to make the world. I thought that was always cool, but Quay (Walker) had that. I was 14 at Auburn because 7 was retired, but that’s two 7s. Two was my first number when I was in little league, like 6, 7 years old.”

Willis barely saw action on the field when he was still with the Titans, appearing in only three games and recording just 350 passing yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions. While his stay with Tennessee was largely forgettable, the Packers certainly saw something in him to make a move and make him the chief backup of Jordan Love.
Willis is not expected to start for the Packers, but as a dual-threat quarterback, he can help Green Bay’s defense prepare for offenses led by signal-callers with playstyles similar to his.
