It did not take long for Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis to have his revenge game against his former team, the Tennessee Titans. While Willis had shot down the notion that he was thinking of revenge heading into the Week 3 showdown in Nashville versus the Titans, he undeniably played a big role in the Packers’ win against the team that drafted him.
In fact, Willis set a new NFL record with that Green Bay win last Sunday.
Via NFL Senior Researcher Tony Holzman-Escareno:
Malik Willis threw and ran for a TD against his former team (Titans) just 27 days after being traded by them, the shortest duration for a player to do so all-time. Previously, Red Dunn of the Chicago Cardinals threw and ran for a TD against the Milwaukee Badgers in October 1925 after being traded by them 34 days earlier.
Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis is turning heads amid opportunity as starter
Against Will Levis and the Titans, Willis passed for 202 yards — his most in a game since entering the NFL in 2022 — and a touchdown with zero picks thrown while completing 12 of his 19 pass attempts. He also found success on the ground with 73 rushing yards and a score on six carries.
Willis was sent by the Titans to the Packers via a trade late last August with Tennessee getting a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange. He was selected in the third round (86th overall) by the Titans at the 2022 NFL draft.
There is a chance that Willis will get another start in Week 4, with Jordan Love’s status still up in the air. Either way, the Packers have put themselves in a much better position than what most people expected when Love hurt his knee in Sao Paolo against the Philadelphia Eagles.
