The Green Bay Packers would have loved starting Jordan Love in Week 2’s game against the Indianapolis Colts for their home opener at Lambeau Field, but Malik Willis turned out to be just a fine option for them.
Willis showed his religious side with a sincere post via Instagram Story following the Packers’ takedown of the Colts.
“Thankful for another opportunity to glorify God 700 TGFE,” wrote Willis. “The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

Green Bay Packers survived Week 2 with Malik Willis as starter
The Packers crafted a solid game plan with Willis under center. It was a deliberately conservative tactic that did not rely on Willis’ ability to pass. He only threw the ball 14 times, connecting on 12 of them for 122 passing yards and a touchdown. The main focus of Green Bay’s attack was on the ground, as Josh Jacobs and company rushed for 261 rushing yards on 53 carries. Willis accounts for 41 of those yards on six carries.
“I don’t think you guys can appreciate or even comprehend the task that Malik Willis (faced),” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said after the game about the challenge Willis is dealing with as a newcomer to Green Bay, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). “This guy got here three weeks ago.”
Having made his debut for the Packers, Willis should come into Week 3’s meeting with the Tennessee Titans with more confidence should he continue to start for Green Bay. Facing his former team should also add flavor to whatever hype there is on Willis, who was acquired by the Packers from Tennessee via a trade last August.
