The Green Bay Packers are certainly going to look much different in 2023. From the pending Aaron Rodgers trade, to multiple free agents finding new homes, to the 2023 NFL Draft. There seems to be a new era at 1265 Lombardi Ave. That will even mean some coaching changes along the way. That was the case over the last 24 hours as the Green Bay Packers made one very interesting hire.
Green Bay Packers Hire “Life Coach” For Team

As he once explained to CowboysSI.com, Rob Davis is essentially a “life coach.” And now he moves from the Cowboys back to the Packers. The Dallas Cowboys’ assignment of Rob Davis as “assistant head coach” was an unusual one, as Davis – a former Green Bay Packers long-snapper – had never really coached before. As he once explained to CowboysSI.com, Davis is essentially a “life coach.”
According to Mike Fisher:
This spring, Davis was let go by the Cowboys, despite his close relationship with head coach Mike McCarthy, who’d relied on him in (via the Packers website) “focusing on mentoring players and developing the locker room, while helping maintain cohesiveness between players, coaches and football operations.”
The Packers announced on Tuesday that there is a newly created position in that organization as Davis “will lead learning and development initiatives aimed at providing opportunities for staff members to grow and excel, and will advance the team’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals,” per the Packers site.
Davis’ title is “director of organizational development & diversity, equity and inclusion.”
“We’re excited to welcome Rob back to Lambeau Field in this new, critical role,” said Packers president Mark Murphy. “Rob is the ideal person to lead our efforts in these areas.”
Following his Packers playing career, Davis worked for nine years as the Packers’ “director of player engagement” before moving into the business world and then joining McCarthy at The Star in 2020.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact this hire has on the players. David Bakhtiari Tweeted out on March 3rd this pretty interesting survey taken:
Solid diagram for those who would like to quantify the grades of each teams grade report. Credit to whoever out there; you know who you are. #nfl pic.twitter.com/WF7RVVYXpE

Under “training staff” the graph had and 8 out 10 that Bakhtiari agreed was fairly accurate. Hopefully this type of hire only makes the quality of life for the players and coaches that much better.
