The Green Bay Packers took an early 3-0 lead after a 30-yard field goal attempt made by kicker Brandon McManus on their opening drive.
The Lions baited the Packers into an encroachment penalty, making it fourth-and-goal at the three-yard line. Detroit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown goes up and makes a beautiful catch against Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon for the TD as the Lions went up 7-3.
Lions QB Jared Goff looked secure in the pocket
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff was comfortable in the rain, completing his first 11 passes while Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love threw a pick-6 to Lions safety Kerby Joseph to wrap up a sloppy first half filled with penalties. The Packers trailed the Detroit Lions 17-3 at rainy Lambeau.
The Green Bay Packers went 0/4 on third down. Brandon McManus missed a 46-yard field goal attempt wide left. They had multiple dropped passes. Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs running the football untouched
On 4th and 1 Detriot running back Jahmyr Gibbs found the gap for the touchdown as the Lions go up 24-3 to start the 3rd quarter. The Lions offensive line is mauling the Packers.
Back-to-back botched snaps from the Packers forced Green Bay to kick a 38-yard field goal. The Lions were in front 24-6.
Taking absolutely nothing away from the Lions, who played good, efficient ball throughout and are the team to beat in the NFC. If the Packers had half of the drops or penalties, this could have been such a different story without half the starting secondary.
Jared Goff was 18/22 for 145 yards passing and only one touchdown. David Montgomery and Jamyr Gibbs had 28 carries on 138 yards rushing and one touchdown combined.
Packers dominated the Lions statistically
The Green Bay outgained Detroit 411 to 261 yards. They also had more first downs than the Lions, at 20 to 17, despite the loss to them. With those statistics I would not have thought they would lose.
The Packers really outperformed the Lions on the stat sheet. However, they lost the game because they emptied an entire clip into their own foot. If they clean up some of those mental mistakes, they can be right there with any team in the league. Hopefully, the bye week helps them clean those errors up.
