The Green Bay Packers’ future looks a lot brighter than it did about a month ago. Not only is the young roster coming together and playing well, but they’re beating playoff teams in the process. Jordan Love has looked like the franchise quarterback they hope he is.
Going forward (no matter how the 2023 season ends) the Packers will obviously want to build a formidable team around Love for the foreseeable future. That may include a former first round draft pick.
The Green Bay Packers Could Sign Former First Round Draft Pick Isaiah Wynn
Pro Football Focus annotated how this addition could help the Packers’ offense:
Wynn started the first seven games for the Dolphins in 2023 at guard before going down with an injury but could still kick back out to tackle if needed. His ability to play on the inside is just a bonus. He has earned a 67.5 pass-blocking grade this season over 224 snaps.
Wynn has dealt with injuries throughout his career but posted pass-blocking grades above 70.0 in each season from 2019 to 2021. Green Bay doesn’t spend a ton in free agency and may not view Wynn as a fit at tackle, given his measurements, but he could be an attractive buy-low option for them as they continue to navigate the overhauling of this unit.
Would The Packers Bring In A Veteran Left Tackle?
A torn ACL for David Bakhtiari on New Year’s Eve in 2020 may have cost the Packers a Super Bowl run. He was out for the whole year in 2021 (save a few snaps in Week 17) and played just 11 games in 2022.
Many fans and analysts have assumed that Green Bay will cut him in 2024, the final year of his contract, to save $19 million. Bakhtiari does not seem to be interested in that.
If Bakhtiari is back in Green Bay next season they may want to take a LT of the future in the 2025 NFL Draft. LT is certainly one of the positions that the Packers need to think about the future of within the next season or two.
