The Green Bay Packers have been focusing on special teams with all of their free agent signings so far this offseason. Re-signing All-Pro kick returner Keisean Nixon might end up being the most important signing for the team. With Aaron Rodgers moving onto the New York Jets, it will be beneficial to give new starter Jordan Love a short field to work with. Indeed, special teams can make or break a season, as Packers fans know all to well. To that end, the New Orleans Saints have signed former Packers special teamer Ty Summers to a one-year contract.

The Green Bay Packers drafted Ty Summers in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He made the team and was an important player on special teams. Unfortunately, the special teams’ units consistently underperformed during Summers’ tenure with the Packers.
When Rich Bisaccia was hired as the new special teams’ coordinator last offseason, he brought with him some pretty high expectations. He also influenced the Packers’ front office to bring in some of his favorite players for the unit. Unfortunately, Summers was unable to find a place on the roster this time around. The Packers cut him on Aug. 28.
Three days after he was cut, Ty Summers was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played three games in Jacksonville while spending most of his time on their practice squad. On Dec. 20, the Saints signed Summers off the Jaguars’ practice squad. Summers played three more games in 2022 with New Orleans.
It looks like both parties were interested in keeping it going, as Ty Summers now returns to the Saints for his fifth NFL season.
