Green Bay Packers Land 24-Year-Old Star Wide Receiver Amid Christian Watson Injury News (Proposal)

The Green Bay Packers could realize that they need more help at the wide receiver position than originally thought.  This isn’t due to lack of talent, however, more so availability.  Christian Watson missed the first three games of the season before making his season debut vs. the Detroit Lions.  Unfortunately, Watson’s health going forward is still under a microscope.

Fans are hoping this is not a lingering issue throughout his career.  Watson missed four games last year due to a hamstring injury, missed three this year, and was on a severe pitch count in Week Four.  That being said, the Packers could make a move to land a young talented wide receiver that this offense can still build around.

Green Bay Packers Land Wide Receiver Jerry Jeudy From The Denver Broncos In Massive Trade Proposal

If the Broncos make Jeudy available, Max Dible of Heavy.com believes the Packers should get involved in trade talks:

Nick Kosmider of The Athletic on Tuesday, September 26, laid out the case for Jeudy entering the trade market ahead of the October 31 deadline.

“The 2020 first-round pick has two more seasons left on his rookie deal, this one included, after the Broncos picked up his fifth-year option in the spring,” Kosmider wrote. “He is due to count $12.99 million against the salary cap in 2024, all of it fully-guaranteed. So any team trading for Jeudy now, or in the coming weeks, would have a lengthy window in which to evaluate him before deciding whether it should offer an extension.”

Green Bay has invested heavily in pass-catchers over the last two drafts and appear to have hit on several. Christian Watson showed himself as one of the league’s most explosive playmakers as a rookie in 2022, while Romeo Doubs has three touchdowns through three games with new starting quarterback Jordan Love at the helm.

Rookies Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks have also had moments early in their professional careers, while Samori Toure is making a strong case for himself as a long-time reserve wideout in the league.

All that said, there are still issues in the Packers’ wide receiver room. Watson has already missed the first three games of his sophomore campaign with a hamstring injury after sitting out three contests due to injury last year.

Jeudy is coming off of a career season. Assuming his fifth-year option is exercised, he has two years left on his rookie contract. With his presence being the only bright spot on the Broncos’ disastrous offense in 2022, he will likely command a sky-high price.

In 2024, the Broncos will be without a second-round draft pick. The Packers will have two and the Packers love spending second round draft picks on wide receviers. It could be a win-win for both sides (given other trade compenstaion is added).

Green Bay gets Jordan Love an experienced weapon to round out their wide receiver depth chart. Love could continue to grow with Jeudy, Watson, and Doubs for years to come.

Looking back on it, the Packers should have accepted the trade of Watson to the Colts for J.T. Especially with our poor play from A.J. Dillion this season.
